Windchill Upgrades
The extension platform is installed by default from Windchill 12 onwards, but on earlier versions the installation must be done manually through the Windchill Extension Center. The upgrade process goes as it follows:
- Upgrade your Windchill.
- Download the latest version of the platform from the Windchill Extension Center.
- Install the new platform.
- Install the correct version of your Windchill Extensions according to your new Windchill version: the system will recover that configuration and the extension will operate as it did in the previous version.
Platform Upgrades
The process for installing and upgrading the platform is the same, and is described here.
Update
An update is a dynamic process that does not require a restart like, for example, the standard deployment of an extension.
Upgrade
An upgrade happens when the kernel and system are affected and, as a result, the Windchill server will need to be restarted.
The platform upgrade is performed by stopping the server and running installer. The installer will upgrade the existing system automatically or install a new platform if none is present.
Extension Updates
In order to update a Windchill Extension, the system administrator just needs to deploy a newer version of the WEX, either through the Extension Manager or the WEX Shell. If the version of the deployed WEX is lower than the one already present in the system, the new one won't install. In order to deploy an older version of a WEX already installed, it needs to be undeployed first.
System extensions can only be uninstalled by using the WEX Shell, but can be upgraded to a newer version just like a normal one through the Extension Manager.
